Taunted By the Blank Screen? Do This.

As a Scorpio, a writer, an introvert, I live and thrive in my head. So I get it when someone says, “I just don’t know what to write.”

Hours, sometimes days or weeks, go by and the screen stares back, mockingly blank.

Taunting you. “You have nothing to say. You’re useless. No one needs what you have to say. Why don’t you just give up? No one would even know or care if you DID decide to put a word on this screen. Why bother? It’s useless trying. Don’t you have dishes or something that need to be done? What about the grocery list? At least get THAT done if you can’t pull a fucking WORD out of your stupid head and get it on this page. You’re a disgrace. And you call yourself a writer.”

But the truth is…

You have so MUCH to say that you can’t decide WHAT to say.

You KNOW your industry.

You KNOW your clients.

You KNOW how to inspire and motivate. To connect them to their truths.

And just because what you know is being silenced by the voices in your head doesn’t mean it’s not there.

So…

When the words don’t come…

When they stay silent because you truly ARE happy in your head where no one bothers you.

Pick up the pencil and draw or doodle (even if you can’t).

Pick up a crayon.

Pick up a paintbrush.

Turn on some music.

Or go for a walk. Or dance.

Robin Jonna Rosenhaus would call this shifting your energy.
And it helps.
(She has a fantastic clearing that works wonders, too.)

Allow yourself time, with an actual timer, to live in the world in your head.

DING!

When time’s up?

Open the closest book, look at a “today in history”, choose a word from an email between you and your clients…hell, you can choose a line from a song that’s playing at that moment, even…

And just start writing.

Just let whatever you need to say about that word, event, or email flow.

Many times, you’ll find that just allowing your mind to let ANY words flow, the ones you REALLY want to say follow closely behind. Or something comes up that’s even better.

That’s all it takes to create momentum. And that momentum is what turns your blank screen into the wisdom that your clients and audience need to hear.

Because you did that work to move past your comfort zone of silence and introversion…

Because you did that work to find what was hiding in the depths of ALL the knowledge you hold…

You created.

And your clients and audience are now moved to action. Your one action…created a ripple effect that you may never know about.

More than that, though? You also proved to yourself that you DO have something to say. And the more you flex, build, and train that muscle, the less often you’ll hear those mocking voices in your head.

The key is continuously making the choice not to let it bully you.

You have words to say.
And the world needs to hear them.
