Amateur Copy Wrecks Your Conversion (and what to do about it)
Maybe you’re making a few thousand a month.
And that’s great!
But your conversions are super, super low. Cold traffic is not opting in. You are not able to book calls. And your sales are all coming from...YOU.
Because your copy announces to the entire world that you wrote it on your own and you followed the age old advice to “write like you talk”, only the person that said that didn’t know that you only talk about YOU.
When we get the ball rolling on business, we get caught up in all the to-do’s and throw shit up that basically just says who we are and what we do.
And that works...for a while.
But as you grow, as you become better at what you do, amateur copy is not enough.
At some point you have to realize that filling your site with copy that’s wrought with “I” or failing to uncover the emotions that your reader needs to read leaves you stuck at the earning ceiling you’ve reached.
When you grow up, your business has to grow with you.
That means a visually stunning site that feels innovative and contains fresh with copy ink that sparks their souls will carry your name a lot farther than fumbling with words that leave the reader feeling slighted and unseen.
Slighted and unseen readers don’t buy.
But WHY did my amateur copy work up to this point?
It’s likely because you’ve been working that pole like JLo in “Hustlers”.
You’ve been playing in groups, meeting people on the daily. You’ve even been talking to everyone you meet when you’re out and about.
You’ve been spreading the good word of your expertise ery’where.
So, they get to know you, like you, and trust you...without the help of your site.
But now? You can’t afford to spend your time like that. Your hands are FULL with orders to be filled or clients to service, etc.
Your site has to be able to do the job you did when you had time to be connecting with every person you meet on and offline.
You need your site to strike a chord in the hearts and souls that you don’t yet know or have a chance to talk to...that cold traffic that is coming from as far away as the opposite corners of the globe.
It’s called scaling.
And it’s necessary if you want to shatter that earning ceiling.
So, if you have amateur copy that has little to no emotion on it (by the way, you don’t get to judge that because, hey, you wrote it...OF COURSE you think it’s good enough), a site that talks mostly about YOU, a site that looks like it stepped straight out of 1999, you aren’t going to earn the trust you need to earn to make more money than you made last year.
What’s the FIX for amatuer copy and getting more conversions, then?
Well, OBVIOUSLY to have someone you dig write it OR join the Copy Edge where you can find out where your copy needs to be fixed.
Literally.
If not the Copy Edge, get your best clients to tell you how THEY feel when they read the words on your site. Or how they feel when they take it in visually. (PS? If you take everything you write to your clients, like you can do in the Copy Edge, they might get to the point where they tell you to stick it...just sayin’.)
But only ask your best clients.
Not the ones you’re not crazy about working with and not yo’ mama.
Conversions (and a higher income than this year) come with tight as fuck copy.
And you have to find a way to put it up on your site and in your social.
Let’s talk about how to help you do that.
