Monday Mosh Pit (Entrepreneur Style!) - Featuring Jamie Varon

You work hard to get your name out there. You're doing work that's changing people's lives and all you want is to let them know about it. That's what the Garage Party's all about. Focusing on you, your project, and a peek into your soul via the song that makes you move – no matter what you're up to. The party's not only about spreading your name, but about meeting people who might be able to help you, who might be someone you would want to collaborate with, who you might just want to build a bridge with.

Just like this week's VIPs!

SophiaLovett Sophia Lovett

Sophia's a chick after my own heart! Now she helps entrepreneurs create personality-based, yet rockstar-worthy brands, but her background? MUSIC! She knows how to rock your brand - and make you human-like at the same time! Check out her song and her site! Say HI to Sophia Lovett!

JennaSoard Jenna Soard

Jenna's designed a sexy course for peeps like you called "You Can Brand" and it's for those of us who have never designed before, who don't have a logo, who have a brand (but it isn't resonating with their ideal customers), or who DIY'd your brand and it looks like it. (Who resonates with that one??) Check out her song and her site - and say HI!

CarrieCharles Carrie Charles

You're sitting on the beach, sipping piña coladas when you hear a shrill from the next room snapping your neck right out of the daydream you were living in at your desk. Damn it. You know you can have that life, but you just can't get past the procrastination of making it happen. Carrie can. She can get you past the roadblocks we all tend to throw in our way so we can design the lives of our dreams. Check her out and check out her track! Say HI to Carrie Charles!

TomKat Tom Kat

Traditionally, visitors to Colombia would have to talk to locals, dig up resources, hope the instructor answered when they reached out, wait to set up times for lessons, etc. Wasting days of their vacation time. Now, Tom has developed an online platform to connect visitors to instructors, so they can then schedule their time. Boom. The process takes minutes, not days, from your vacay. Say HI to Tom and check out his site!

MarkSieverkropp Mark Sieverkropp

JamieVaron Jamie Varon

Want to give your customers a Brandgasm? Learn everything you need to learn to give them a customer experience like they won't get anywhere else in your industry. I took the Brandgasm course (shut up...I'm still working on implementing thankyouverymuch)  and it's a powerful tool that anyone who wants to makeover their site should have in their hands. (PS...Jamie created the course with Ash Ambirge - my hero and Copywriting Goddess) DO it.

And as always, you can plug into the Official Garage Party Spotify playlist for inspiration to get it done!

Monday Mosh Pit (Entrepreneur Style!) - Featuring Sarah Steenland

You buy the $90 Led Zeppelin Complete Studio Collection from iTunes, not because you NEED it, not because there's a hidden track on it, but because it's music that speaks to your soul. Just like you paid $399 for a business course you didn't need because the copy spoke to your soul. Like heart-melting copy, good songs aren't just strings of notes and words thrown together. Each has a purpose and a place. And each one works to shift your spirit. And those songs that move people tell us volumes about what kind of person they are. They tell us who that person is in a way that they can't explain.

This is why I love the Garage Party so much. Because music lets you meet people who you wouldn't normally meet and gives you a peek into their psyche. And if you'd like to be one of the VIPs on the Garage Party, so you can stand up in front of 2700+ entrepreneurs and let them peek into your heart and mind, join us by dropping the deets on the form. Now, I'm shutting up. Meet these cool cats!

Monday Mosh Pit (Entrepreneur Style!) - Featuring Johnny B. Truant

Music is the strongest form of magic.

~Marilyn Manson

Music captures our creative souls and holds them ransom. Being an entrepreneur unleashes them onto the world and allows us to become our fullest selves in a world where we were only encouraged to "be". The Garage Party is about bringing those two parts of us together in one arena where people can see the music that casts spells on us and the businesses that come about because of those spells. Every week, 7 entrepreneurs take "the stage" in front of an audience of 2700+ to show off their magic. Every week, I'm amazed at the people I meet.

Join me in celebrating people that have passion, dedication, and a fire to make their mark on this world. :) And sign up to be a part of an upcoming Garage Party, so you can show off your soul and your business!

Paul Bond | Badass'D Biz+Ink Paul Bond

I’ve seen this gentleman’s attire more than once on Chris Brogan’s head. And I’ve heard good things about him from Ajax Wooley. Let me introduce you to Paul Bond of Brix Workwear. Johnny B Truant | Badass'D Biz+Ink Johnny B. Truant

Time for tonight’s Surprise VIP! Johnny B. Truant, articulator and story machine behind Realm and Sands, is one character who creates characters you won’t soon forget. And right now, he and his partner, Sean Platt, are working to reach their stretch goal for their Kickstarter campaign. If there’s anything you can learn from these two loons (said with utter love and affection) is how to write, how to write well, and how to write well fast. Check out Johnny’s favorite song (which was among 8768K other ones and he almost couldn’t choose!!) and his Kickstarter! Please contribute or share! :) (after you give a listen to Social Distortion!)

Send me your deets and you, too, can become a VIP like these amazing peeps!

Get Your Customers to Pay Full Price

You've been offered a discount, but you refuse it. You refuse it. WHY?? Why would you turn down MONEY? Essentially, you're insisting on giving away what you had in your pocket. WHY?

Blame It On Your Foolish Heart

We buy because of emotion. We don't buy because of price. Think about the last time you walked into American Eagle or your favorite store. What did you feel when you walked in? That store's your fave because of how it makes  you feel when you go inside. The clothes you choose, you choose because of how you feel when you wear them. It's emotion, not price tag that propels you.

Your customer is no different.

Make Customers Want to Give You Their Money

This morning, I called our mechanic to make an appointment to have the car looked over before we trek through the mountains of West Freaking Virginia (no offense, but it freaks me out) and break down – again. I want him to make sure everything's running and in good shape.

"How much?"

"$69.95, (stuttering) but, um, I'll see what I can do. Maybe I can get you a discount."

"No. I don't want a discount. I want you to take your full price and look at every lug nut and every bolt to make sure the car is safe before I haul my precious monsters in it." (Okay, if you tell on me for turning down a discount, you're off the cool list. :p )

Emotion made me want to give him everything he deserves.

It Isn't About the Money

I want to pay full price because I want piece of mind that our SUV will get us there safely. I want piece of mind that he's not going to cut corners. Hell, I'll probably  give him extra to make sure he's super thorough. But his willingness to accommodate me, our history of working together, and the feeling of reassurance made me turn down his offer. I am perfectly happy with paying full price because I FEEL he'll do a better job if he knows I'm not trying to nickel-and-dime him.

Are you turning on emotion in your customers?

Getting Your Customer to Pay Full Price

So, if you want customers to come back to you again and again. If you want customers to accept your prices and fees without haggling. If you want them to look forward to doing business with you, make them FEEL the way they want to feel. Bring up emotions in them that make them connect with you.

Your words will make or break your business in this digital business age.

Connect with their hearts and minds in everything you do, from your social media to your blog posts, to your emails.

Because people will forget every word you ever said to them, but they'll never, ever forget the emotions you stir in them.

Take this, turn your customers on, and kick ass next week!

Monday Mosh Pit (Entrepreneur Style) - Featuring 10th Mountain Whiskey

The music starts and you close your eyes to feel it. There's magic in the notes that carries your soul to another plane. A plane where wounds are forgotten, or scars reopened. A plane where you lose yourself in rhythm instead of chaos. The magic transforms you into the truest form of yourself that you always forget you are when everyone else is around. Music has power. Music is power.

And someone's favorite song speaks volumes of his soul. What better way to get to know him than to ask what his favorite song is? So here! Here are 7 entrepreneurs who you should know + a bit about their souls! Let's get the recap of this past weekend's Garage Party underway!

You can be a Garage Party VIP just like these guys by dropping me an email to tania (at) taniadakka (dot) com!

Make a Membership Site, Make Money

Someone, out there, is waiting for you to teach them how to do what you do. Sure, you can start a blog, put up some videos on Youtube, and actually send emails to your list. But, why stop there? Why not dig into the meat of what you do and create a membership site around it? That was the premise behind If Simply: You know something. You build a membership around it to teach those who want to learn it. You become more successful.

Keith Griffis of If Simply sat down with me the other day to teach me how he's revolutionized the way these sites are built. He's made it super easy to start and maintain yours so your members get top-notch content and will pay top dollar for it.

We originally decided to meet because I thought this could somehow turn out to be a platform for the Garage Party. Nope, but I fell in love with it and it could make a great platform for the Entrefiends, or maybe a new home for Badass'D Rebels (name still pending).

How easy is it to start my membership site?

All you do is enter your email address to start creating your membership site on Once you click through your confirmation email, you'll be taken to a real time editor that'll allow you to create your bio and profile. That's it. Now, you can start your club!

The drag and drop, real-time editing makes it super easy. It's creating the actual courses that'll be harder (but, you can do it!) And maybe THAT needs to be a series of posts to come?

On your club page (PS: that's what each members' site is called, a "club"), you'll see all your info organized there together. The courses, the discussions, and the articles. You can encourage members to take discuss your course materials amongst themselves, but you'll get a better response if you're in there yourself (at least in the beginning) to dig in and hold their hands for a while. The club organization makes it easier for people to find your info and to stay engaged. Yay!

How do I get paid?

The really cool part is the ease of the sales page creation. Once upon a time, sales pages were tricky to set up properly, but Keith and Justin have made it a breeze for you to sell and upsell your membership levels with their real-time editor and already-fixed layout. That's where you get mo' money ;)

Take a look at how easy this sales page is:

Networking Like a Boss (Without Feeling Sleazy)

Network like a boss | Tania DakkaEveryone wants exposure. Businesses fight everyday to be seen. So why not help each other out?

That’s the premise behind the Garage Party (#GarageParty) I hold every weekend on Facebook. The coolest part of the party? It was completely organic. I didn’t come up with some maniacal scheme to corral people to my Facebook profile. It came naturally.

What the heck is a Garage Party, Woman?

If you know me on Facebook (first, my apologies :) ), then you know I share entirely too much music. To a fault. And always what I’m listening to. No idea why I started it. Maybe because it’s my personal profile and I felt like it? :D No seriously. (Remind me to tell you why you should use a profile instead of a page later, K?)

But, one Friday night, I decided to hit my friends online to find out what their favorite songs were. Sharing is fair and fun, right? But why stop there with their tune-age? So I added their links and a little intro to what they do.

They. LOVED it.

And I loved seeing their reactions. It felt good to see them so happy and making connections they might not have otherwise made.

So I did it again the next week. And the next.

Fast Forward

The entrepreneurs whose links I shared became known as Garage Party VIPs and there are 7 each week, one of which is usually a “Surprise VIP” (so far Chris Brogan (duh), Erika Napoletano of Redhead Writing, James Altucher, Ashley Ambirge, and Tommy Walker have played the Party! WOW!).

It’s been over a month and the Party’s going strong. Now, it’s shared to my G+ and Twitter streams, too, so the VIPs enjoy the benefit of over 2600 other entrepreneurs seeing their links and hearing their favorite songs.

This week's going to be the sixth week of this madness. And it's going to be as much fun as it was the first time.

Successful Networking

It’s too much fun to call the Garage Party networking, but if you want to get into industry jargon, that’s what it is. And it's a success when you see people interacting on the Timeline or in the feeds. To watch people like James Altucher and Erika Napoletano  jump in on the convo with the other attendees, to see what people have to say about the tunes and the links shared, is the magic that a successful party is all about.

Connect the Dots

The Garage Party works because people love music and love to share the tunes that move them with others. The bonus is the linkage that comes with that fun share. It’s also something that happens when little work is going on, so it feels less forced and more fun.

To make a big impact on your network, solidify relationships, and forge new ones, do something fun and inspiring with them. Do it often. The more you interact with them, the stronger the bond you form and the more organic the relationship. Win-win!

And while we’re at it, if you want in on the Garage Party, email me your favorite song, a URL you want promoted, and a bit about what you do to You don’t even have to be there to make it happen. On Friday (usually, but this week it’s on Saturday), at 8pm EDT on Facebook, Twitter, and G+, I’ll share your link and your favorite song with the world. Okay, with my world. :) (Follow me on all three channels and let's kick 2014 in the teeth together!)

Thanks for reading, here’s to inspiration for your own organic magic! What networking successes have you had recently? Tell me in the comments :)

September's Fall

And here's a little #FridayFlash for the flashers out there.  Next week will be more refined...I promise!  Enjoy:) Her heart pounded with his breath in her ear. Being so close to him freed her and strengthened her. She needed him and he needed her.

With Steve by her side, Maria never again would return to her old life of baggage and boredom.

The sun rose and set on their faces, side by side every day. She didn’t know how to breathe without him. He was the blood that coursed through her veins. And she was his.

Until September.

Then, taunted and teased by a red-haired harlot, Steve fell prey to his manhood. What would happen when Maria found out?

September showed herself.

Anger and pain crippled Maria. With the burning in her soul, she pulled the heavy metal from the nightstand drawer and taught September who was in charge with the motion of one tiny little digit.

No one disrespected Maria that way…not even Steve.

September’s life was not enough to pay what was owed her. Maria lay Steve to rest beside her and never looked back.

No more did his scent fill her nostrils. No more did his body fill her arms. Now only ice coursed through her veins.

Until August came.

Thanks for stopping by to read.  What do you think Maria should have done??  What will happen with August?  Leave me a note in the comments and let me know:)  Have a beautiful weekend!

Delia: A #FridayFlash

I so have NOOO business doing this today.  I mean...REALLY.  But, my soul needs feeding after all the nonfiction work I have been doing this week.  So, forgive my brevity, if you will.  But, implore you, I still.  Please read to the bottom.  And leave a comment for the Rotten:)

Lost and confused, Delia missed her bus.  Not knowing where she would go or who she could trust, she turned to make her way back toward Russ.  His looks made her swoon and her knees knock.  Butterflies reached her throat, but that's no shock.  When her eyes met his, it was love at first sight.  Throwing caution to the wind, she approached him gussying up all her might.  "Please don't think me brazen, but your face is amazing.  I would love to see you some other night."  Russ reacted, appalled in every way.  Up went his hand and brought a close to her day.  Now she lay bleeding down on the floor. The life spilled out of her...forever more.

A lesson to careful who you approach.  Beauty can be deadly:)

Ha!  Thank you for allowing me this little ditty...apparently too many rhymes in one sitting.  I hope I didn't offend you or run you away.  Please join me on Twitter, Facebook, and Google today!  Don't worry, I'll spare you more of the fray!

I would love to see your version of the above in the comments! Take a stab and see how much better you can make it:)!

Thanks for stopping by to read my #FridayFlash!

A Chance to help those who help us

Hi guys!  I am stepping out of schedule this week as I have just gotten an important email that I want to share with you. Write to Done is having its 6th annual Top 10 Blogs for Writers contest and writer bloggers everywhere need your help to get them nominated.

There are hundreds of blogs for writers out there.  I am asking that you take a moment and vote at Write to Done.

If you need any help in deciding who you should nominate, stop and think who has made an impact on your writing career the most.  Who has been there to teach you, to guide you, to answer your unending emails?  Who has shown you kindness when you felt like you were on the writing road alone?

For me, there are so many like Justine Musk, Patti Larsen, Christina Katz, Copyblogger, and Jane Friedman that have taught me so much.

But Sean Platt at GhostwriterDad has been a endless pool of resources into which I am CONSTANTLY dipping and for which I am forever grateful and I would love to see him win, but you have to give your honest nomination.

That is what I am asking from you.

There are many writers out there that take the time to help because they know the difficulties that we face as newbies...they are the ones that you should thank with your nomination.

Now, I want to thank you for your time for stopping by to read!

If you have two minutes, I would really appreciate your input on a short 5 question survey!  Thank you, in advance!

Do you want to make the most of your creative life? Your career?

I want to help you.  I can get you there, but I need your help first. Being as productive as possible in this lightning fast world is draining.  Nutrition takes a back seat while fatigue and caffeine drive the bus. Fitness is often thrown in the trunk with the broken bags.  All while they should be driving The Productive Creative Bus.

It is time to stop this cycle and I want to help you do it.  But I need your help to know your obstacles.

As a former junk food junkie, I know that the chemical flavors of concocted food stuffs are addictive.  They are made to be that way.  I know the feeling of waking up on the morning and being exhausted and wanting to skip the workout.  Eating naturally doesn't come naturally anymore. And it is even harder with kids and the advertising world.

There's a storm brewing in my brain and that's why I ask for your help.

I want to know how you feel about being healthy and productive.

Would you be willing to pop over to this link and answer 5 short questions?  And if you would be so kind as to share this link on your Facebook and Twitter accounts, I would greatly appreciate it.

With your input, I can help you get on the road to being The Productive Creative that you are and help you start earning your potential.

Thanks for stopping by to read!  Let's connect on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+!  And if  you really like the ideas I am stirring up here, I would LOVE to have you sign up for email alerts...they are painless and you can opt out at any time...and I won't spam you or sell your info :)

Visualize the Game Plan, Not the Win

For years we have been told that we have to "visualize success" in order to BE successful.  Heck, I even blogged about it here.  Why?  Because I believe it.  Well, I am reconsidering what I believe in light of this new info because it makes sense.  However, I am not throwing the whole idea out of the window.  It still holds merit when used properly. In short, the link above explains how these researchers have found that doing what we have been taught to do actually brings complacency.  And thus, we relax our hackles and don't push forward as hard as we would if we hadn't envisioned our goal.

The logic is that the vision actually makes the brain think that it has achieved what it wanted and relaxes.

So what do they suggest?

The researchers suggest visualizing obstacles and obstructions instead.  But I suggest laying out visual map of what it is that needs to be done in order to reach the next level of your game.  For instance, before sleeping at night, see yourself doing each task the next day that you need to undertake in order make the it successful.  Each day should bring a new step and new plan.

Instead of just saying "I need to edit tomorrow" or "I need to write the spreadsheet for X client tomorrow," go further.  SEE yourself editing 10 pages and SEE yourself working on that spreadsheet.  This ingrains the vision for the following day and you have put it in your mind that it will be done.

Match Point

But in order to know what you should be planning for each day, you have to set out your game plan.  Know what you want and how long you want it to take to get there.  Refer to it often.  Each month check yourself to make sure that you are headed in the direction of your original goal.  Set your markers so that you can gauge where you stand in reference to the endgame.

So the next time you hear "visualize your success," respond with "visualize your daily game plan to get there."

What is your theory on visualizing success...was it all a ball of malarkey?  Let me know in the comments below, I love hearing from you!!

I also love keeping in touch with you guys.  And it would be a great honor if you would sign up to receive email updates or connect with me on Twitter, Facebook, or Google+.  Talk to you again soon!

Thanks for stopping by!

The key to your productivity

Love yourself into productivity. Sit no longer staring at the blank screen that mocks and torments.

Take the fear that and burn it.

You are great.

You are more than your fear.

Fear is a thief.

Don’t let it steal your love.

You love your craft…so rehabilitate that paralysis into a stronger, loving you.

A you that loves you enough to put your craft first.

A you that loves you enough to feed you the best.

A you that puts your all into whatever your art is.

You are the master…fear is your Rover.

When you listen to others, you listen compassionately.

Listen to you with that same compassion.

Release your fear and embrace you.

Your art(whatever it is...writing, music, accounting) deserves it.

When you treat you as well as you treat others, you light up your art in a way that you didn’t imagine.

You are your own master.

Own it.

Live it.

Love it.

Love you.

Top the charts.

What prevents you from making the most of your craft?  Drop me a line and let me know!

Thanks for stopping by for this brief post!  Sign up (top right of the page) to receive posts in your inbox.  I wont' spam you or sell you out!  And you can opt out whenever you like...but I hope that you will stick around for the roller coaster ride.  :)

End bedtime battles with good copywriting

Delayed bedtimes, unfinished food, unbrushed teeth. Ah, the unheeded words of a parent can make even the sanest of sane lose it.

Stop the cycle.

Copywriters write copy to strike chords.  To resonate with their audience.  To move them and make them want to buy…even if it’s a product they might not need.

Our children are our audience and our best copy can sell them on our ideas.

Harness the power of good copy.

Learn the psychology of marketing and apply it to your children.  Children have the same mentality as a writer’s audience.  They want to be entertained.  They want what they want.  Use copychology on them to make them think that bedtime and brushed teeth is all their idea and that they are good ones. (Check out Robert Cialdini's The Influence of Persuasion.  He teaches why people say "yes" and how to apply it to your marketing.)

Copywriters listen to their audience.

Oftentimes, children just want their voice to be heard.  Give them the floor.  Let them say what they need to say.

Listen carefully to what they DON’T say, as well as what they do.  Those beauties lack the ability to fully express  what they want or need.  Their frames of reference just aren’t vast enough yet.

So, SuperCopy, you must listen with intent to what is between the lines, as well as to what is on them.

Here’s how it works.

Little Suzi doesn’t want to go to bed.  She is having too much fun playing with you.  “You need your rest, Little Suzi” doesn’t cut it.  She isn’t concerned that she needs to sleep so she can develop into the rocket scientist that you dreamt she would become.  She wants to be close to you.  She’s missed you.  She needs you.

“Little Suzi, I see that you are having a great time.  I didn’t want to sleep when I was your age, either.  So I understand.  But if you can go to sleep now, I will wake you five minutes earlier before school tomorrow so we can spend a little extra time together before you leave.  Do you like that idea?”

Wow.  Suzi is floored.  She was heard and understood…and now your copy has just sold her on the idea of going to bed…when YOU wanted her to.

Congratulations :)

So the next time you have a request, make it.  Listen to the spoken and unspoken responses and mentally write your copy.

Your client will be putty in your hands.
